850 nm Upconversion Lasing in $\mathsf{Er^{+3}}$ Doped Z.B.L.A. Fibers

Abstract
Upconversion lasing at 850 nm is studied in Er +3 doped Z.B.L.A. fibers. Modelling of excited state absorption and upconversion emission from basic principles allows determining the laser oscillation condition in the fiber. Values of excited state absorption cross-sections are deduced from laser oscillation and spontaneous emission data and discussed.
