Abstract
The correlation between the density of a substance at the critical point and in the solid state is examined in view of the
amazing empirical feature that the ratio between the above two densities is a constant for most substances. This universal
feature offers a new criterion for assessing some improved versions of van der Waals equation of state for fluids.
