Abstract
We discuss the influence of the limited available number of photorefractive centers on the holographic storage capacity of phase holograms in photorefractive materials. We compare this limitation with the other sources of noise that also limit the holographic storage capacity of photorefractive materials. As an example, we apply our formulae to gray level images stored in a BaTiO 3 photorefractive sample.
