Abstract
It is shown by a simple analysis that twinning in $\alpha$-Zr polycrystals is strongly influenced by the presence of impurity atoms in low concentration. Motion of impurity atoms appears therefore as an important element to be taken into account when trying to define a criteria for twinning.
