Abstract
A novel time domain analytical method for predicting EM (electromagnetic) field transients resulting from power line switching
operations is presented in this paper. This method which is directly derived from EM field theory of a power transmission
line, allows the field transients to be accurately and efficiently calculated. It can be proved that conventional numerical
methods for computing transmission line transient EM fields are in fact degenerative approximate models of this analytical
method.
